Breaking News - Explosion in Manhattan

One of my esteemed contacts in NYC just phoned in with some breaking news.

There was an explosion just a few minutes ago in New York City. Manhole covers flew up 4 stories in the air. Pavement and bricks cracked. The area reeks of fecal material.

Currently, there is no word as to the cause or nature of the blast available online or in television media, but we’ll be sure to update this story as defails arise.

You heard it here first.

Finally found an article on the New York Times web site after digging through CNN and Google News.

It still isn’t known for sure what caused it, but some say the explosion was caused by the build up of pressure and gas from an underground fire, possibly an electrical fire.

If you don’t mind registering so that The New York Times can keep statistics on what you’re reading, then read the full article here.

    Thanks, Brian.

More words from the front lines:
“Living in New York is like living on a tightwire, and it could go at any moment. When you least expect it, one of the wires right next to you goes, so you start expecting it to happen any second.”

I’m totally taking credit for being the first website to mention this story. Of course, the really sad thing is that such a huge city is so third-world so much of the time, that sewer explosions downtown don’t even get coverage in most papers.
