PrePost Election Pledges

Like a few other bloggers, I’ve decided to pledge not to be stupid, no matter who wins this election. I agree with most of what those other fine folks said, and I’m adding my own bits.

Of course, I’m convinced that Bush will win, as those of you out there who know me personally already know by now. I have enormous, and perhaps irrational, love and respect for this nation, and I think that they’ll do the right thing. I think that we’ll have another 4 years of tax breaks, smaller government, and a continuing unrelenting campaign against dangerous barbarism. Unfortunately, we’ll also have another 4 years of a campaign against lewdness and abortion, but what are ya gonna do? However, regardless of who wins, I pledge that I’ll act like an adult.

I’m confident that there won’t be a draft, despite what Eminem might say in his songs. (Oddly enough, it’s Rangle and a few other Dems who seem to be pushing for a draft - the GOP stance seems to be more along the lines of “If you pay them, they will enlist.”) But I vow that I will leave this great nation at the drop of a hat if I am conscripted into military slavery against my will.

I vow that I will continue to make arguments based on the facts as I understand them, and always seek to expand my understanding by learning and checking facts. I will not lie to make my points sound more scary, or claim that the president is “evil” without any real evidence.

I know that it is virtually impossible to win - or even be in - a presidential election. I will not claim that the president a liar, un-patriotic, or unintelligent, without extremely strong evidence. In such event, I will leave it up to our legal system to handle it, and express my views through peaceful speech and through my dollars and my vote.

I vow that I will continue to mock the president’s speech and mannerisms relentlessly, no matter who he is, because that is the American Way.

I vow that I will stand up for freedom in every conversation where it is appropriate, and that I will try to find the proper facts and logic to convince anyone I talk to. I stand by my conviction that arguments either have two winners or two losers, and that respect earns many more points than abrasion. I will continue to seek truth sensibly.

I promise that I will exit or end any conversation the minute it becomes clear that it’s pointless, and every blog entry the moment I run out of things to say.

what smaller government are you talking about? what are the measures of government size? smaller governments should mean less spending. your republican government is spending like hell. or do you, by saying small, mean the extent of government policies into people’s lives? then why ban abortion and gay marriage?? either ways fuck conservatism. all the republican states are fucking red neck states. don’t you feel the injustice in having an idiot running the country? do you listen to him on TV? it hurts my brain to listen to him. the only thing i appreciate about the republican party is how organized they are. i just wish the democrats quit being hippie like and become as clean and organized as the GOP. other than that, fuck morals and values. where do they even come from? who dictates them? my only fixed core value is “no harm”…

anyway, i’m saying that and i’m not an american. you seem like an intelligent person. it just surprises me that you would want Bush in power just because he’s a republican like you. i would like to think that there was enough justification to start the war in iraq, but i just can’t. there isn’t. i know there isn’t…

I’m leaving this comment here just to have a perfect example of exactly what I’m talking about. “Fucking red neck states”? My, oh, my, ain’t that an enlightened view that’s bound to win friends and influence people!

To anyone who thinks that an “idiot” can really rise to the highest seat of power in the world… What kind of fairyland do you think this is?

Republicans have spent a lot of money, but quite a bit less than John Kerry had planned to spend. I said smaller. Even in the sense of intruding into peoples’ lives, the Republican party does better, even after their injustices on the gay/abortion issues. Intruding into my wallet = intruding into my life. Kerry’s reversal of the tax breaks on the top 2% wouldn’t have been enough to pay for his plans, and would have only served to chase out businesses and stifle innovation.

For the justification for the war in Iraq, how do you know? Did you have access to the intelligence that John Kerry, George Bush, and many many others agreed was proof positive that Saddam had WMDs? We’ve done much less harm than Saddam had, and the only way to protect ourselves in the long run is to seed the middle east with freedom. It worked in Europe, and it worked in Japan. McDonalds and Britney Speares are going to win this war in the long run. The guns and bombs are just to get us there.

    Furthermore, I’m not a Republican. I’m a Capitalist.

i wasn’t interested in winning friends or influencing people. i just wanted to speak my mind and leave it up to you to look in depth. Bush is an idiot by consensus agreement.

So you really think that Bush went after Saddam because saddam had WMD? Or do you think he went after saddam because he wanted freedom for the iraqi people?

heh… i just wanted to test your reaction. you really don’t seem so intelligent anymore! go ahead and believe what they tell you!

    g. luck!

Damn, that’s funny. I didn’t realize that opinion polls were the new measures of IQ.

Speaking of consensus agreement, there’s an old saying about everyone jumping off a cliff, and how you ought to, as well.
