b2evo to WP Import

As part of moving over from b2evolution, I had to be able to import all my existing posts. There was an import script, but it didn’t handle some of the stuff that I really wanted to keep, so I put on my php hat and went to work on it.

This was a joint effort, of course, and I am only the last person to have some input. Read the download file for more information and full credits. I’ll probably update this page later to have more info.

  1. Get import-b2evolution.php.
  2. Upload to your wp-admin folder.
  3. Go to http://your.site.com/path/to/wp/wp-admin/import-b2evolution.php, and follow the instructions.

[...] I have to say, the switch to WordPress was nice and smooth, thanks to the b2evo importer script that I updated a bunch and which Isaac Schlueter has worked on further. There’s also a terrific number of WP plugins available to use, and I’ve already installed quite a few. I love the Events Calendar (look to the top of the sidebar on the right) and I’m hoping that Spam Karma 2, Referrer Karma, and Bad Behavior will all help to filter out spambots. As soon as I get around to it, I’ll update my Gallery to Gallery 2 and start using the WP-Gallery2 plugin to post images here. After I finish my Google Summer of Code project I’ll be working on it a little to add some functionality and make it easier to insert Gallery items into posts. [...]

I just had a quick go with this, and I got the following error:

    Importing User records …
Invalid query: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘user_login` <> ‘admin” at line 1
    SQL : SELECT DISTINCT * FROM evo_users WHERE evo_`user_login` <> ‘admin’

This is from a installation, with the latest version of EdB’s antispam hack the only modification to the database.

Sorry about that. I just corrected the bug. There was a misplaced ` in one of the queries.

You can get the corrected file at

Is this still alive? I’d like to move on from B2, but can’t stand to loose the content. I’m running WP 2.2
